Out and About
Just down the road is Hay-on-Wye, the charming riverside market town on the Herefordshire–Wales border, famous for its winding streets, old stone buildings… and books everywhere you look. Every corner seems to hide another bookshop, and between the shelves you’ll find brilliant independent cafés, delis and restaurants tucked away in all the best spots.
Hay is world-renowned for the Hay Festival, a vibrant 10-day celebration of books, ideas and culture held each year in late May (usually around the 26th of May) — when the town is absolutely buzzing and bursting at the seams.
With its thriving independent shops, antique stores, standout bars and seriously good food (the kind that could give London a run for its money), Hay-on-Wye is a treasure trove of local crafts, great browsing, and slow, happy wandering.
