Fire is in our DNA
Fire-cooking at Drovers Rest — it’s part of who we are and our where we are …
We’re South African, where cooking over open fires is a way of life: a place to gather, keep warm, tell stories and to slow down. A long time before our 16th century Farm became Drovers Rest, this land was a place to gather for Drovers who travelled these hills with cattle, sheep and geese, meeting, trading, resting and cooking over fires before continuing on their long journey to the London markets. What we do today is a continuation of that history: fire at the centre, people around it, food cooked slowly and shared generously.

Drovers Fire Feasts
Dates soon to be releasedOur flagship fire-cooked feasts — the nights that define Drovers Rest.
Seasonal food cooked over embers, grills, spits and planks, served sharing-style on platters at long tables. No rigid courses. No rushing. Just smoke, flame, generosity and time to linger.
Best for: date nights with bite, birthdays, reunions and “we need a proper night out” gatherings.
Look out for: seasonal specials, guest chef collaborations and one-off menu nights.

Festivals and Gatherings

Multi-layered events where the farm comes alive — music, firelight, food and friends, with feasting woven through the experience. Some are small-scale and intimate. Some stretch across a day or a weekend. All are built around gathering.
